The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to publicize the re-competition of Senator Paul D. Wellstone Muscular Dystrophy Cooperative Research Centers (MDCRCs). These Centers promote collaborative basic, translational and clinical research and provide important resources that can be used by the national muscular dystrophy research communities. The centers also provide an outstanding environment for the training and career development of new scientists electing to pursue careers conducting research in high priority areas of muscular dystrophy. Finally, center investigators are expected to participate in important community outreach and education efforts to increase awareness and convey the importance and implications of their research activities to the general public.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to encourage cooperative agreement (U01) applications from individual investigators or groups of investigators who wish to collaborate with the Epi4K Genetics and Genomics of Human Epilepsies Center without Walls (Epi4K CWOW). Investigators with existing DNA sample collections from well characterized cohorts of epilepsy patients should propose next generation sequencing and analysis studies to identify novel sequence and copy number variants. The proposed studies must be within the scope of the CWOW program and must use the extant infrastructure and resources of the Epi4K CWOW.
Expiration Date: Wednesday, November 28, 2012 NOFO Number: RFA-NS-13-004 Release Date: Tuesday, July 10, 2012 Notice Type: RFA
This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) encourages applications to augment and strengthen emerging research programs focused on NINDS mission related research at institutions committed to increasing diversity in the neuroscience workforce. For the purposes of this FOA, Specialized Neuroscience Research Programs (SNRPs) are defined as those institutions with NINDS funding less than $25 million total cumulative costs over the 3 years leading up to the application. The intent of the SNRP is to promote opportunities to improve the research infrastructure at academic institutions with emerging NINDS mission related research programs to engage researchers in novel, cutting edge research. It also provides early stage investigators with the opportunity for intensive research experiences to promote scholarship in discovery, integration, and the application of knowledge in basic and translational neuroscience research.
Expiration Date: Thursday, November 15, 2012 NOFO Number: RFA-DA-13-003 Release Date: Tuesday, July 10, 2012 Notice Type: RFA
This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites applications for Tobacco Centers of Regulatory Science (TCORS) using the P50 mechanism. The TCORS program objective is to conduct programs of multidisciplinary research that will inform tobacco product regulation and address the research priorities related to the regulatory authority of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Tobacco Products (CTP). The NIH and the FDA have formed an interagency partnership to foster research relevant to tobacco regulations. The awards under this FOA will be administered by NIH using designated funds from the FDA CTP for tobacco regulatory science mandated by the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (FSPTCA), Public Law 111-31. Projects resulting from this FOA are expected to serve the FDA by generating relevant findings and data needed to inform the regulation of the manufacture, distribution, and marketing of tobacco products to protect public health.
Expiration Date: Wednesday, September 5, 2012 NOFO Number: RFA-MH-13-071 Release Date: Thursday, July 5, 2012 Notice Type: RFA
This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and the National Institute of Neurological Disease and Stroke (NINDS) seeks applications for the Data Coordinating Center (DCC) of the National NeuroAIDS Tissue Consortium (NNTC). The DCC will function as part of the NNTC, a national resource that provides clinical and research data and biological specimens to accelerate discovery research for HIV-associated central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS) diseases. It will support the NNTC Clinical Sites that are funded via the companion FOA (RFA-MH-13-070). The DCC works cooperatively with the NNTC Clinical Sites to provide (1) management and database capabilities to ensure effective clinical and brain banking operations and (2) scientific expertise in biostatistics and HIV epidemiology to enable broad analysis of the NNTC clinical database and to aid in post award statistical analysis of recruitment and retention goals for the NNTC cohort. In this consortium, the NNTC Clinical Sites will have all patient contact which will include all clinical assessments ante-mortem. The NNTC Clinical Sites will also be responsible for the collection and housing of post mortem clinical specimens. The DCC will serve as a data repository which will include the clinical assessment data and data obtained post mortem including brain pathology reports, laboratory tests conducted on the collected specimens/fluids, a comprehensive inventory of those specimens housed at each NNTC Clinical Site, and research data, such as bioinformatics datasets.
Expiration Date: Wednesday, September 5, 2012 NOFO Number: RFA-MH-13-070 Release Date: Thursday, July 5, 2012 Notice Type: RFA
This limited competition Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and the National Institute of Neurological Disease and Stroke (NINDS) solicits applications to continue the activities of the National NeuroAIDS Tissue Consortium (NNTC) Clinical Sites as previously funded under RFA-MH-08-021. The NNTC Clinical Sites collect neuromedical and neuropsychiatric data from late stage, HIV-infected subjects who have indicated a willingness to participate in organ donation. The NNTC Clinical Sites perform clinical assessments, collect brain and neurological tissues and fluids, perform neuropathological diagnosis and laboratory assessments and transfer select data generated from these activities to the NNTC central database which is maintained by the Data Coordinating Center (DCC). The mission of the NNTC is to maintain a research resource that supports studies on the pathophysiology of nervous system complications of HIV infection in the current era of anti-retroviral therapy. The Clinical Sites work cooperatively with the DCC to provide the clinical data and specimen resources to research investigators. Competitive applications for the NNTC DCC are being sought under a separate but related companion FOA (RFA-MH-13-071).
