Dr. Xinzhong Dong’s research focuses on the mechanisms underlying itch and pain sensation. His lab integrates molecular biology with animal behavior, in vivo imaging, and electrophysiology to gain new insights with the goal of developing novel anti-itch and pain drugs. For this project, he proposes a multidisciplinary and rigorous approach using mouse behavioral models, imaging, and brain tissue analysis to conduct mechanistic studies on a key itch receptor, MrgprA1/X4, involved in various clinical conditions. These in-depth studies may provide insights into key itch mechanisms and lead to the development of novel therapeutics.
