Manisha Patel, Ph.D.

Dr. Manisha Patel's research focuses on understanding the role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and metabolic mechanisms in neuronal disorders such as epilepsy and toxicant-induced brain injury. Dr. Patel's project builds upon twenty years of research to identify the redox and metabolic mechanisms of seizure-induced brain injury. The project aims to test a novel hypothesis linking neuronal mitochondrial ROS, resulting in mitochondrial dysfunction associated with astrogliosis initiation. This work could help to develop novel metabolism-based therapies for epilepsy.
