Dr. Moens’ lab studies how genes control the brain’s early development, setting up the complex structure found in adult brains, using zebrafish as a model organism. Her lab also studies the roles of core components of the Wnt Planar Cell Pathway, a cell contact-mediated signaling pathway that transmits polarity information between cells to orient them for directed migration. Her project aims to discover how the Planar Cell Pathway is used by growth cones of neurons in the spinal cord to find their appropriate targets in the brain.
