NINDS postdoctoral and clinical residency awards are intended to further develop the independence of a newly-trained doctorate recipient.

Transition to Faculty Awards

To provide support to outstanding clinician-scientists to develop their independent research skills through a two phase program; an initial mentored research experience in the NINDS intramural program, followed by a period of independent research.

To support a cohort of new and well-trained independent investigators conducting Pain and/or SUD research, in order to increase the independent investigator workforce in research areas supported by the NIH Helping to End Addiction Long-term (HEAL) Initiative®

To support both an initial mentored research experience (K99) followed by independent research (R00) for highly qualified, postdoctoral researchers, to secure an independent research position. Award recipients are expected to compete successfully for independent R01 support during the R00 phase.

Postdoctoral Awards

Fellowship designed specifically to support outstanding scientific training for graduating predoctoral and postdoctoral fellows who will begin or are just beginning a new postdoctoral training period in a given laboratory or research environment.

The NIH Loan Repayment Program helps retain highly qualified health professionals in biomedical or biobehavioral research careers.

NINDS Mentored Research Continuity supplements are intended to help provide additional funds to ensure continued research progress for recipients of NINDS mentored career development (K) awards whose research program is impacted by a critical life event.

Administrative supplements to currently active NIH research grants to support individuals with high potential to re-enter, re-integrate into, or re-train in an active research career.
