Awarded Project
Ion Coupling, Permeation, and Regulation in Glutamate Transporters
Dr. Boudker’s research focuses on improving our understanding of the membrane protein families responsible for the movement of neurotransmitters. Her lab is investigating how lipid membranes contribute to cells’ interactions with the environment and how transporters move neurotransmitters from cell to cell. Her project aims to uncover fundamental details about the transport of glutamate, which is critical for learning and cognition processes of the brain, and the role of ions in this process. The overarching goal of the project is to uncover the mechanisms of how transporters diversify and specialize their functions.
