Erika Holzbaur, Ph.D.

Using live cell imaging and other methods, Dr. Holzbauer studies the molecular machinery used to transport materials along nerve fibers called axons. She seeks to understand how defects in this process contribute to neurodegenerative diseases. As a particular focus, she will study the formation, cargo-loading, and transport of cellular components called autophagosomes that are important for breaking down and transporting waste products inside cells.
