A neuroimmunologist, Dr. Hauser’s research has contributed scientific insights toward understanding the genetic basis, immune mechanisms, and the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS). Central to this project is the hypothesis that B cells in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and peripheral blood during early MS play key roles, both in triggering MS and in mediating ongoing progressive disease activity. This initiative will focus on large well-characterized clinical populations, comprehensive biobanked materials, and serial magnetic resonance imaging of the brain and spinal cord to advance knowledge on how MS is triggered and potential treatment options.
