Awarded Project
Dr. Ellis-Davies is a pioneer in the field of using light to control cell function through the development of caged calcium probes. This project aims to address several gaps in the area of optical chemical methods that are used for photochemical probing of neuronal function. The lab will develop new probes that would allow chromatically selective, multi-color stimulation of cellular processes in vitro and in vivo. This advance would move the field from the “monochrome era” and toward the bi-directional control of neuronal signaling with different colors of light.
