Joseph Dougherty was a Post-Doctoral Associate at Rockefeller University. In the laboratory of Dr. Nathaniel Heintz, his research project focused on the cellular etiology of neurological disorders. Specifically, he applied a novel methodology – Translating Ribosome Affinity Purification (TRAP) – to identify the complete suite of genes being employed by any particular cell type in the mammalian brain. Applying this approach could help to bridge the gap between a polymorphism in a geme and a symptom in a disorder, leading to targets for treatment strategies. He received his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of California, Los Angeles, and earned a B.S. and B.A. in Psychology from Truman State University.
