Jason M. Newbern, Ph.D.

K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award

Council Dates: October 2011 - May 2012

Independent Position: Arizona State University

Dr. Jason M. Newbern was a postdoctoral fellow with Dr. William Snider in the Neuroscience Center at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Using mouse models, he aimed to define the precise role of ERK/MAPK signaling in inhibitory neural circuits, which is disrupted in neurodevelopmental syndromes. This work sought to better understand the development and reversal of neural circuit defects in human syndromes resulting from mutations in ERK/MAPK signaling components. He earned his Ph.D. in neurobiology and anatomy from Wake Forest University - School of Medicine, Winston Salem, North Carolina, and his B.S. in cellular and molecular biology and biological psychology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Genomics, Evolution, and Bioinformatics faculty group, School of Life Sciences, Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona.
