Dr. Jason D. Shepherd was a postdoctoral associate with Dr. Mark Bear in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at The Picower Institute for Learning and Memory, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts. His research focused on investigating the role of the activity-dependent gene Arc in synaptic and experience-dependent plasticity in the mouse visual cortex and understanding how these processes are disrupted in neurological disorders. He earned his Ph.D. in cellular and molecular medicine from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland, and his B.S. in neuroscience from the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy with adjunct positions in the Departments of Biochemistry and Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences at the University of Utah, School of Medicine, Salt Lake City, Utah.
