Dr. Jan Kubanek is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. He pursued his postdoctoral training in Neuroscience/Neural Engineering at Stanford University School of Medicine. His research hopes to elucidate how ultrasound activates neurons and determine a set of ultrasound parameters that stimulates neurons optimally and provide stimulus safety levels utilizing different model organisms. This work will provide a new tool for noninvasive stimulation of specific brain regions, and also helps to study the function of neural circuits in neurological disorders. He received his Ph.D. in biomedical engineering/neuroscience from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and MS in biomedical/medical engineering from Czech Technical University in Prague.
