Huaye Zhang was a Research Associate in Microbiology at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Under mentorship from Ian Macara and Suzanne Moenter, her research focused on understanding the complex signaling mechanisms regulating synaptic assembly and function, and how they relate to memory formation in vivo. Through a combination of cell biological, electrophysiological and behavioral approaches to address these questions, she sought to understand the effects of a group of proteins called PAR-6 and aPKC on the way that brain cells communicate with one another.

She earned her Ph.D. in Cell Biology from the University of Virginia, and her B.S. in Biology from the University of Science and Technology of China in Hefei, Anhui, China.
