Florian Merkle was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard University. In the laboratory of Dr. Kevin Eggan, his research aimed to identify environmental and genetic factors leading to HCRT neuron loss in narcolepsy and to test a potentially curative treatment for this common but neglected disease. He earned his Ph.D. from University of California, San Francisco and earned his B.S. in biology from the California Institute of Technology. Currently, Dr. Merkle is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge.
