Dr. Benoit Renvoise was a postdoctoral fellow with Dr. Craig Blackstone at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland. He aimed to identify the function of the interaction between proteins REEP1, spastin, and atlastin-1 in the pathogenesis of hereditary spastic paraplegias (HSPs) – a group of neurological disorders characterized by lower extremity spastic weakness. His work sought to provide insight into the pathological mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration and to improve the fundamental understanding of HSP protein defects in patients, ultimately leading to the identification of target pathways for drug development. He earned his Ph.D. in neurosciences from the Denis Diderot University, Paris, France, his M.S. in cell biology and physiology from the Pierre and Marie Curie University, Paris, France, and his B.S. in cell biology and physiology from the Paul Sabatier University, Toulouse, France. He is now a Global Project Manager III at Roche Pharmaceuticals, San Francisco, California.
