Antonina Roll-Mecak was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of California, San Francisco. In the laboratory of Dr. Ronald Vale, her research aimed to understand the function of an enzyme, spastin, that is defective in the majority of patients with hereditary spastic paraplegias, a group of poorly understood neurodegenerative disorders. She earned her Ph.D. in molecular biophysics from Rockefeller University and earned her undergraduate degree from The Cooper Union in New York City. Currently, Dr. Roll-Mecak is a Senior Investigator and Unit Chief Cell Biology & Biophysics Unit at NINDS, with a joint appointment in NHLBI.
