Stefan Pulst, Ph.D.

Javits Award

Dr. Pulst studies Spinocerebellar Ataxia type 2 (SCA2), a neurodegenerative disorder that causes uncoordinated movement (ataxia) and other symptoms. SCA2 primarily affects neurons called Purkinje cells, which are key players in the cerebellum’s control of smooth, coordinated movement. In this project, Dr. Pulst will explore the role of abnormal calcium levels inside Purkinje cell, and he will also search for new genes associated with the disorder.
