Michael Young, Ph.D.

Javits Award

Dr. Michael Young studies the genetic regulation of sleep and circadian rhythms. In this project, he will study interactions among genes that regulate sleep, longevity, and formation of the blood-brain barrier in Drosophila. Further, the role of circadian clock genes in commonly encountered disorders of human sleep will be explored, along with causal linkage to co-morbidities such as diabetes, obesity, and certain mood and anxiety disorders. The goal is to provide insights and tools for better understanding of human sleep and human sleep disorders.
