Dr. McCormick uses diverse multi-disciplinary approaches, including state-of-the-art imaging, whole cell recording, optogenetic manipulation, and behavioral monitoring in mice, to uncover the relationship between cortical network activity, arousal state, and behavioral variability. He is currently examining whether optimal state for performance in a somatosensory detection task is associated with a particular network activity state and how that state is achieved through spontaneous and evoked excitatory and inhibitory inputs interaction.
