Patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) suffer loss of motor function due to demyelination of neurons in the central nervous system (CNS). An important unmet clinical need for these patients is a method for promoting remyelination and restoring motor function, while limiting immune cell infiltration into the CNS. For this project, Dr. Lane plans to identify signaling pathways governing neuroinflammation, characterize pathways linked to oligodendrocyte maturation and remyelination, and refine strategies to improve remyelination. Using single-cell and nuclear RNA sequencing approaches, his work will inform an understanding of how immune cells interact with CNS cells during demyelination and remyelination, ultimately leading to better MS therapies.
