Dr. Kathleen Millen's research program seeks identify the events that regulate cerebellar development, using the power and strengths of both mouse and human genetics with embryological analysis in mice and other model vertebrates. Cerebellar involvement is central to common neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism and intellectual disability, yet very little is known about human cerebellar development. For this project, she has designed experiments that are designed to fill a considerable knowledge gap regarding the cellular and molecular programs that drive normal human cerebellar development and the pathogenesis of human cerebellar malformations.
