The Division of Clinical Research (DCR) seeks a physician with expertise in pain clinical research for a full-time position as a Supervisory Physician who will lead the clinical research effort responding to the opioid crisis, under the NIH’s Helping to End Addiction Long-term (HEAL)® Initiative.  The HEAL Initiative®  supports efforts to develop non-addictive treatments for acute and chronic pain to provide alternatives to opioid use.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the Early Phase Pain Investigation Clinical  Network (EPPIC-Net) and coordinating other NINDS and HEAL-associated pain initiatives. EPPIC-Net seeks to enhance the treatment of acute and chronic pain and reduce reliance on opioids by accelerating early-phase clinical trials of non-addictive therapeutics for pain conditions currently lacking adequate treatment. Therapeutics for study in EPPIC-Net come through applications submitted by academic and industry investigators. EPPIC-Net clinical trials are conducted by the network’s coordinating centers and clinical sites throughout the U.S.  The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of EPPIC-Net conduct, management, and oversight, as well as  assisting and advising the DCR on new concepts related to pain research, collaborating with other pain research initiatives within NINDS and NIH, and managing their own grant portfolio of pain research.
