Division of Neuroscience

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) is seeking two Health Scientist Administrators (Program Directors) to join the Neural Environment Cluster. The successful candidates will manage/co-manage a portfolio of research grants, cooperative agreements and/or contracts to support this area of neuroscience research. These two candidates will oversee extramural activities in the cellular and molecular mechanisms of ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic stroke, cerebrovascular malformations, and/or neonatal hypoxic ischemia (exact details of who will oversee which topic area will be tentatively based on the candidates’ expertise and interests but is up for discussion). The successful candidates will also work with program staff to strengthen programs in the basic, translational and clinical research in this area.

NINDS is seeking candidates with:

  • A doctoral degree and post-doctoral training are strongly preferred.
  • Expertise in research towards understanding stroke or cerebrovascular biology.
  • Applicants must demonstrate that they have worked independently in planning, organizing, and conducting biomedical behavioral health, or health-related research and/or served effectively in research program administration in these fields.

The NINDS is a leading supporter of biomedical research on disorders of the brain and the nervous system at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). NINDS provides funding and resources for basic, translational and clinical research through various funding opportunities within the three Divisions of Neuroscience, Clinical Research and Translational Research

Located within the Division of Neuroscience, the Neural Environment (NET) Cluster provides oversight of grants focused on basic neuroimmunology, neurovirology, neural vascular biology, and the blood brain barrier as well as on basic, translational and clinical research on stroke, multiple sclerosis, CNS and PNS tumors, neuro-AIDS, prion diseases, and CNS infections. Program Directors in the NET Cluster work closely with colleagues in other NINDS Divisions and NIH Institutes to provide oversight and expertise on grants and contracts relevant to the research focus of the Cluster.
