Ultrafast membrane trafficking at synapses

Dr. Watanabe’s research focuses on understanding cellular and molecular basis of synaptic transmission and plasticity. His team develops novel techniques in electron microscopy to visualize millisecond-by-millisecond movements of membranes and proteins at synapses and leverages these tools to dissect out the mechanisms of membrane trafficking during the synaptic vesicle cycle.
