The overarching goal of Dr. Wechsler-Reya’s work is to improve understanding of the molecular basis of medulloblastoma and to develop safer, more effective treatments for the disease. To accomplish this goal, he will utilize new animal models of medulloblastoma that he has created. He aims to identify drivers and create models for the deadliest forms of medulloblastoma, find novel strategies for targeting metastatic disease, use primary patient tumors to discover new therapies, and identify mechanisms that regulate immune response to medulloblastoma. A deeper understanding of this disease is essential, as medulloblastoma is the most common malignant brain tumor in children.
