Dr. Feany’s research is focused on defining the molecular mechanisms of neuronal dysfunction and death in common neurodegenerative disorders, including Parkinson’s disease, using a variety of in vivo and cellular models. This research program will use a combination of Drosophila and mouse genetics, together with patient-derived cell models, to unravel the cellular signaling cascades involved in neuronal cell autonomous responses to alpha-synuclein toxicity as well as non-cell autonomous control of neuronal toxicity by glia.
