Mark Beenhakker was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Neurology and Neurological Sciences at Stanford University. In the laboratory of John Huguenard, his research aims to understand how factors that increase signaling by excitatory neurochemicals may contribute to an inherited form of epilepsy. More specifically, his experiments aimed to understand the mechanisms underlying the observation that CLC2 chloride channel dysfunction can enhance the excitability of thalamic network activity in vitro. He earned his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Pennsylvania, and his B.S. in Neuroscience from Washington and Lee University.
