Dr. David Gate is an instructor of Neurology and Neurological Sciences at Stanford University. Under the mentorship of Drs. Tony Wyss-Coray and Mark Davis, Dr. Gate’s work will aim to elucidate the role of the adaptive immune response in Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). He will first determine specific T cell populations present in AD and will examine whether these cells relate to disease severity. Next, he will examine the antigens driving T cell clonal expression in AD. Finally, he will determine the mechanisms of T cell-mediated neuronal death and resiliency in AD. To do this work, Dr. Gate will utilize next-generation sequencing analysis, antigen screening, induced neuronal culturing methods, and CRISPR gene editing techniques. His work will improve our understanding of the mechanisms of AD and may identify novel therapeutic targets for this disease. Dr. Gate received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Santa Barbara and his PhD from University of Southern California.
