Dr. Alan Emanuel is a research fellow in Neurobiology at Harvard Medical School. Under the mentorship of Drs. David Ginty and Chris Harvey, Dr. Emanuel will determine how the representation of complex features in primary somatosensory cortex are produced by cortical and subcortical neural circuitry and how these representations are adapted for behavior. To accomplish this aim, Dr. Emanuel will utilize mouse genetic approaches, in vivo electrophysiology, and modern computer vision. The aim of these experiments is to provide insight into the fundamental processes underlying sensory processing in the central nervous system. Dr. Emanuel received his bachelor’s degree from Washington State University and his PhD from Harvard University.
