Dr. Bondi is committed to excellence in mentorship not only in her lab, but at the institutional, societal, and international levels. She is involved in a wide array of mentorship efforts in programs and societies designed to attract, retain, mentor/sponsor, and promote underrepresented groups in science. Dr. Bondi has been particularly gifted in mentoring undergraduates, training them to consider all aspects of the experimental process, trusting them with critical experiments, and empowering her trainees to embrace their diverse upbringing. In addition, she encourages her team to engage in community outreach initiatives, including one in which her mentees present on topics related to traumatic brain injury prevention at local elementary schools. She established an annual Mathematics, Physics, and Biology Olympiad scholarship in her home country of Romania and was honored with a key to the city of Cặlặraşi in recognition of this effort. Dr. Bondi also received the Rosalind Franklin Award, sponsored by Mary Ann Liebert Publishers, that recognizes a female researcher for notable scientific contribution in the field of neurotrauma and impact in education, mentoring, and advocacy.
