Timothy Ryan, Ph.D.

Dr. Ryan's laboratory aims to develop a detailed quantitative understanding of the synapse both in terms of physiological responses to action potential stimuli as well as the molecular underpinnings of its function. For this project, his team explores the controlled conversion of ATP into a fuel source to enable synaptic function, as deficiencies in this process may underlie many forms of neurodegeneration. Understanding this neuronal machinery at a molecular level may better ensure the success of future therapies for many types of neuronal diseases.
