Dr. Leslie Griffith is a recognized leader in elucidating the molecular and cellular processes that drive learning and memory formation, and the role that sleep plays in these processes. She was among the first investigators to record in vivo from central neurons of Drosophila and pioneered the use of functional imaging for determination of connectivity within fly memory circuits. In this project, Dr. Griffith will leverage recent genetic advances in the fly model to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying activity dependent synthesis of the protein kinase CaMKII, and how regulation of translation helps shape the synaptic proteome.
