Gina R. Sampson has joined the Office of the BRAIN Director as a Public Affairs Specialist. In this role, she supports researcher outreach activities, develops improved communications strategies, and leads the annual BRAIN Initiative Meeting. Previously, Gina served as the Civil Rights Strategic Engagement & Communications Officer for the Office of Civil Rights with the USDA Forest Service and a Chief of Staff to the Southwestern Region's Regional Forester. Originally from the Midwest, Gina began her career with the Forest Service on the Uinta National Forest in Utah, working in partnerships and public affairs. Gina has worked primarily in partnerships, public affairs, and training and employee development during her 22-year tenure with the Federal government. Her undergraduate degree is in radio/TV/film with minors in English and writing. She has an MFA and a graduate degree in strategic communications with an emphasis in crisis communications. Gina is an avid walker and foodie who enjoys traveling, cooking, spa days, and checking out museums, ghost tours, and outdoor festivals in her spare time. Lady Chablis is her very spoiled seven-year-old Chihuahua.
