Robert Froemke, Ph.D.

Dr. Froemke’s mentoring approach focuses on the unique path that each trainee will take. He actively fosters the career development of each of his trainees and encourages postdocs to develop projects that they will own and take with them to launch their independent research programs. Many of Dr. Froemke’s trainees have obtained highly competitive funding, which include NSF, HHMI, Guilliam, F99/K00 and F30 fellowships to predoctoral fellows and K99/R00 awards to 3 of his postdoctoral fellows. In addition, Dr. Froemke has an outstanding record in helping women and URMs obtain strong faculty positions. Dr. Froemke’s lab studies how biological systems adapt and learn to improve behavior. Through examination of the auditory cortex in rodent models and a range of cutting-edge techniques, the group investigates how oxytocin affects maternal physiology, the coordination of cortical excitatory-inhibitory inputs, and neural mechanism of adaptation that enable cochlear implant function.
