Dr. Daneman fosters a collaborative and “happy” lab that produces excellent, rigorous science. Research in Dr. Daneman’s lab focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms that regulate the function of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), a specialized structure in the central nervous system (CNS) that is critical for proper brain function as well as protection from injury and disease. Using cellular, molecular, and genetic approaches, the lab seeks to elucidate the mechanisms underlying BBB function, thereby informing the development of therapeutics to rebuild the barrier, as well as drug delivery methods that bypass the barrier.
