Dr. Tom Cheever serves as Chief of the Research Operations Branch within the NINDS Division of Extramural Activities. The Research Operations Branch works to identify process efficiencies and streamline business operations for the entire grants lifecycle for both applicants and staff alike in service to the NINDS mission. Prior to joining the Research Operations Branch, Tom was a Program Director in the Neurodegeneration Cluster of the Division of Neuroscience at NINDS. His portfolio included Frontotemporal dementia as well as components of the Parkinson's disease portfolio. Before joining NINDS, Tom was the program director for muscle disorders and therapies at the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) from 2015 to 2020.  Tom started his career at NIH in 2013 as a Health Science Policy Analyst and American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the NINDS Office of Science Policy and Planning where he contributed to several portfolio analyses, evaluations, and reports. 
Tom completed his postdoctoral training at the Mayo Clinic and graduate training in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biophysics at the University of Minnesota where he conducted research on the role of the actin cytoskeleton in neuronal development and function.
