Sandra Martin is the Deputy Director of the Clinical Trials Unit and the Lead of the Quality Assurance and Data Management Office (QADMO) in the NINDS Clinical Trials Unit (CTU). Ms. Martin has been the lead of the Quality Assurance Section since 2010 and assumed the position of Deputy Director in 2019.

The Quality Assurance section of the QADMO provides oversight of approved clinical protocols within the NINDS intramural research program through routine protocol audits, for-cause audits, and on-going monitoring of trials conducted in the intramural research program. In 2019, the Data Management section joined the Quality Assurance Office. The Data Management section assists study teams with the development of protocol specific data management plans and database systems for the accurate collection, recording and storage of study related data.

Ms. Martin obtained her Master of Science degree in Speech Pathology from the University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1984. She is a member of the American Speech/Language and Hearing Association (ASHA). Following a 20 year clinical career, Ms. Martin joined the Laryngeal and Speech Section in the Medical Neurology Branch of NINDS/NIH to work on voice, fluency and swallowing research. Ms. Martin has participated in FDA-regulated (IDE) research and has authored papers and presented at national conferences the findings of her research on intramuscular stimulation and swallowing in stroke and head and neck cancer patients.
