Dr. Heyburn is a Health Program Specialist in the Neural Environment (NET) cluster, where she supports the NET Program Directors. Her areas of interest include blood-brain barrier biology, brain injury and repair, and glial biology. Prior to joining NINDS, she was a postdoctoral researcher at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, focusing on rodent models of blast-induced traumatic brain injury. Dr. Heyburn received her PhD in Neuroscience from Georgetown University, where she studied neurodegeneration and astrocyte dysfunction in a model of ALS/FTLD.
