James Washington is a team leader in the Grants Management Branch. Before coming to GMB, he was selected and completed the NIH Management Intern program. Prior to this, James was a rehab therapist at the NIH Clinical Center’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department. Before coming to the NIH, James was Director of Recreation Therapy Department of the Touro Rehabilitation Center in New Orleans for more than nine years. James has more than sixteen years as clinician working with a diversity of illnesses including oncology, physical medicine and rehabilitation; closed head injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, chronic pain geriatrics, psychiatry, and skilled-nursing. James received his clinical training/internship at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Tuskegee, AL. He is the founding president of the Louisiana Therapeutic Recreation Association affiliated with the American Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA). James is a graduate (M.Ed.) (Special Education-Learning Disabilities) Jackson State University.
