Basic research in synaptic transmission, optical technologies for recording and manipulating circuits, technologies for tracing and accessing circuits
Edmund (Ned) Talley is a Program Director at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, where he oversees a portfolio of grants studying basic biology of synaptic transmission and grants developing optical and optogenetic methods for recording and modulating neural activity. Dr. Talley is co-chair of the NIH BRAIN Initiative Coordinating Team, which oversees programs and policies for the ten NIH Institutes contributing to the U.S. BRAIN Initiative. Prior to joining NINDS, Dr. Talley was on the faculty at University of Virginia, where he studied ion channel contributions to the dynamics of neural activity and their modulation by neurotransmitters and anesthetic compounds.
