Dr. DeAnna Adkins joined the Scientific Review Branch (SRB) at NINDS in late 2018. As a member of the SRB Training Cluster, DeAnna leads the NST-2 Standing Committee that reviews NINDS post-doctoral mentored training grants (F32s, K01s, and K99s). Additionally, she also runs a number of Special Emphasis Panels (SEPs), including review of training and diversity focused T32s and R25s. Prior to joining the SRB, Dr. Adkins was Deputy Director of the Center on Aging and Associate Professor in the Departments of Neuroscience, Health Sciences and Research, and the Center for Biomedical Imagining at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). For over a decade, DeAnna was Principal Investigator of a diverse NIH and VA funded translational neuroscience research program. Her lab focused on investigating how learning, brain stimulation, and pharmaceutical interventions altered neural plasticity, neural repair, and functional recovery following experimental stroke and traumatic brain injury. Additionally, she held several leadership positions with NIH supported research center grants, including the COBRE in Stroke Recovery and National Center of Neuromodulation for Rehabilitation (NM4R) at MUSC, and was involved in several programs supporting the mentorship and training of a more diverse science workforce.
