Cory Kelly serves as the Advisor for Research Operations and Program Implementation in the Research Operations Branch (ROB) led by Dr. Tom Cheever, within the NINDS Division of Extramural Activities. The ROB works to identify process efficiencies and streamline business operations for the entire grants lifecycle for applicants, awardees, and staff, in service to the NINDS mission.

Along with Dr. Karen David, Cory co-leads the NINDS Collaborative Opportunities for Multidisciplinary, Bold, and Innovative Neuroscience (RFA-23-207). Tackling the most ambitious goals and challenges of modern neuroscience research is increasingly dependent on collaborative approaches that leverage expertise and advances across multiple disciplines, an ever-increasing knowledgebase, and a broad armamentarium of technologies. NINDS recognizes the need to support emerging research opportunities of broad scope and complexity that require innovative team science approaches. The COMBINE program, as part of the NINDS Strategic Plan for Research, is designed to support interdisciplinary research teams to achieve transformative goals that could not be met by individual or parallel efforts.

Prior to joining NINDS, Cory served as the Associate Director of Operations for the Stroke and Applied NeuroScience Center and the senior research scientist/engineer in the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington. Cory’s research focused on multidisciplinary collaborations to develop and commercialize minimally-invasive neurosurgical and clinical technologies, particularly for stroke and traumatic brain injury. Cory is an Army Veteran and served in the Infantry.
