Dr. Adele Doperalski is a program director in the Repair and Plasticity cluster at NINDS. She manages a broad research portfolio including basic and applied research related to neuroplasticity and rehabilitation post-neurotrauma as well as spinal cord physiology. Prior to joining NINDS, she was a senior professorial lecturer in the Department of Biology at American University where she taught and developed a variety of courses for both graduate and undergraduate students.  Dr. Doperalski earned her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Florida.  Her graduate work focused on locomotor recovery and neuronal plasticity following spinal cord injury.  Following her graduate work, she conducted postdoctoral research at Virginia Commonwealth University looking at molecular and cellular damage to white matter tracts following traumatic brain injury as well as hippocampal synaptic plasticity.
