Adele Doperalski, Ph.D. is a health program specialist in the Repair and Plasticity Cluster.  Prior to joining NINDS, she was a senior professorial lecturer in the Department of Biology at American University where she taught and developed a variety of courses for both graduate and undergraduate students.  Dr. Doperalski earned her BS in Biology from Emory University followed by a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Florida.  Her graduate work focused on locomotor recovery and neuronal plasticity following spinal cord injury.  Following her graduate work, she conducted postdoctoral research at Virginia Commonwealth University.  This research focused on molecular and cellular damage to white matter tracts following traumatic brain injury as well as hippocampal synaptic plasticity.
