Dr. Julia Bachman joined the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) in 2019 and currently serves as a HEAL Program Manager in the Systems and Cognitive Neuroscience cluster with the Division of Neuroscience. Previously, Dr. Bachman was a Health Program Specialist in the NINDS Division of Translational Research, where she supported several translational programs including the Innovation Grants to Nurture Initial Translational Efforts (IGNITE) program, NINDS and HEAL Biomarker programs, the Cooperative Research to Enable and Advance Translational Enterprises for Biotechnology Products and Biologics (CREATE Bio) Program, and the Blueprint Neurotherapeutics Network for Biologics (BPN-Biologics).
Dr. Bachman received a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, investigating molecular mechanisms of glutamate receptor trafficking and synaptic protein function with an emphasis on activity-dependent post-translational modifications. She then worked as a postdoctoral research associate at HHMI’s Janelia Research Campus, where her work focused on cellular diversity and circuit mapping in the rodent hippocampus. Prior to joining NINDS, Dr. Bachman was an IRTA Postdoctoral fellow at the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) where she conducted studies to dissect synaptic circuitry in the cochlea with a goal of understanding the function of descending, efferent signaling.
