Transformative Science, Team Science, Accelerating Discovery to Impact, Scientific Organizational Leadership, Program Design, and Research Operations
As an NIH Program Officer/Health Science Administrator at NINDS, I serve as Advisor for Research Operations & Program Implementation, optimizing operations and aligning programs with NINDS’ strategic vision to support the ~$2B/year extramural research enterprise. In my Program Officer role, I co-lead the ~$150M COMBINE program, fostering transdisciplinary teams to tackle transformative neuroscience challenges, and manage the Challenge.gov initiative, driving crowdsourced biomedical solutions. Previously, I was a NINDS Health Program Specialist and detailed as a Scientific Review Officer. Before joining NIH in 2021, I was an Associate Director of Operations and the senior research scientist in Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington’s Stroke and Applied Neuroscience Center, advancing minimally invasive neurosurgical technologies for stroke and TBI. I am an Army Infantry veteran, hold an M.S. from Case Western Reserve University in Medical Physiology and B.S. from Seattle University in Cellular and Molecular Biology. I’m completing my PhD in Translational Health Sciences at George Washington University, focused on building capacity in the scientific workforce to navigate the increasingly complex scientific landscape and enhance discovery translation.
