Shellie joined NIH in 2001. She comes to NINDS with extensive NIH policy and grants management experience spanning over 20 years. Shellie began her federal career at NIAID, where she gained grants management expertise working on large AIDS networks and clinical trials such as the Multi-Center AIDS Cohort Study (MACS) the Women's Inter-agency HIV Study (WIHS), and the Center for HIV/AIDS Vaccine Immunology (CHAVI), ultimately, in 2011, becoming a team leader. Following her time at NIAID, Shellie spent several years in OPERA, first as the Director of Grants Policy and later, as a special assistant to the OPERA Director. In OPERA, Shellie led a team of analysts working on trans-NIH initiatives, including one to improve benefits for Career award and NRSA recipients. In 2019, Shellie returned to her Grants Management roots as a team lead at the NCI, where she was recognized for her efforts to help change the diversity of NCI's research portfolio. Shellie received her MBA from Champlain College and her BA in Psychology from The Catholic University of America.
