Dr. Natalia Volfovsky is a Data Science Program Officer in the Division of Neuroscience. Prior to joining NINDS, Natalia was Senior Director of Data and Analytics at Simons Foundation where she led a team of bioinformatics engineers and data analysts that supported multiple data-driven projects funded by Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative (SFARI) and Neuroscience Collaborations. The team focused on the development of computational tools that facilitate responsible data sharing and analysis of high-scale genomic, phenotypic and demographic data generated by SFARI cohorts. Prior to joining the foundation, Natalia served as manager of the computational genomics group at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR) in Maryland where she was responsible for design and development of computational methods to process and analyze genomics data. While at the FNLCR, Natalia also organized bioinformatics training sessions and participated in collaborative research projects. She holds an M.S. in mathematics from Kharkiv State University, Ukraine, a Ph.D. in computer science from Hebrew University, Jerusalem, and completed her postdoctoral work in bioinformatics at the Institute for Genomic Research.
