Dr. Maryam Ghaleh is a Program Director in the Systems & Cognitive Neuroscience (SCN) cluster within the Division of Neuroscience at NINDS. Prior to this role, she served as a Program Director at the National Institute on Aging, where she managed a portfolio of grants and cooperative agreements focused on population studies, the epidemiology of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD), and global health research. Before joining NIA, she worked at NINDS supporting the NIH BRAIN Initiative Dissemination Team.
Dr. Ghaleh is a cognitive neuroscientist with a research background in language, cognition, and their neural mechanisms. She earned her PhD in Speech and Language Sciences from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, where she studied the intersection of language and cognition in healthy aging. During her postdoctoral training at Georgetown University, her research focused on the neurobiology of language and cognition, post-stroke language and cognitive impairments, and the use of non-invasive brain stimulation to promote language recovery following stroke.
