Mariam Afzal is the Program Officer for NIH StrokeNet trials in the Division of Clinical Research (DCR). Prior to joining DCR, she was a Senior Advisor in the NINDS Division of Intramural Research (DIR) Stroke Branch, managing acute stroke studies at two regional hospital sites. Her tenure at NINDS began as a Program Manager and Recruitment Manager at the Center for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine, a research collaboration between the NINDS and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, studying traumatic brain injury. Before that, Mariam managed research compliance and financial conflict of interest review at the New York State Psychiatric Institute - Columbia University Department of Psychiatry IRB. She started her clinical research career as a coordinator for industry-sponsored clinical trials in multiple therapeutic areas. Mariam earned her BA from Columbia University in New York.
